Dis-Chord

Dis-Chord

"One of my favourite destinations is a local land fill which never ceases to provide interesting and unique objects. A recent visit found me looking at two, roughly discarded, upright pianos. After numerous hours of labour I was eventually able to free the cast steel sound board complete with all its strings - a lovely form in and of itself. As somewhat of an after thought, I removed the piano's inner workings which had already received some damage in its journey. I was amazed by the complexity of the components and how they all worked together to both create and dampen the music. I thought it made an interesting form for a new table base and thus “Dis-Chord” came to be. The piano is a “Gerhard Heintzman”, made in Canada in 1907. You may notice that the glass has minor chips or scratches: hard earned patina from years of active service as arena glass."
