Baby Bear
  • Baby Bear

"There is something about babies that is endlessly joyous to sculpt. Normal rules of anatomy fly out the window and the shapes just delight my fingers. Newborns are completely alien little things designed for life inside of the womb and surviving birth. It is a state in which they exist for only a few hours after birth when they transition to life on the outside. There is something so wondrous about this temporary state of being that draws me time and again. I make these little handfuls individually to keep them one of a kind. I sculpted the original in a combination of clay and epoxy over a metal armature and then cast this limited edition into epoxy before detailing and painting it. As I cast and paint each baby individually, each is unique. Please note that each baby varies ever so slightly in colour as does the veining and mottling of the skin adding to the uniqueness of each piece. Each baby comes wrapped in a little baby sleeping bag that I have sewn and detailed. Baby Bear is anatomically correct."
