A Lichen Landscape

A Lichen Landscape

"Lichens can be a little bit like rust - (did I mention that I love rust?)  - a surface patina that changes with time and exposure to the elements.  Unlike rust, they are living things, often growing very slowly over time.  One of the world’s oldest living organism may be an arctic map lichen thought to be 8600 years old.   This stone, found near Lakit Lake, appears to have at least 3 different kinds of lichens flowing together to form their own landscape."
