"One Spirit; So Many Expressions" by Anita Skubleny

We are excited to welcome artist Anita Skubleny to the gallery to celebrate the beauty and character of wildlife in her solo exhibit "One Spirit, Many Expressions." Anita uses monochromatic studies, whimsical interpretations, and realistic and impressionistic paintings to reveal the spirit, emotion, and individuality of each animal. This collection containing a range of artistic styles with a common thread will be available in the gallery from Tuesday, August 18 through Sunday, September 13, 2026.

Working primarily in oils, Anita combines traditional technique with expressive brushwork to move smoothly between the different styles. Each painting begins the same way: with careful observation and a deep appreciation for the natural world. Anita pays particular attention to each animal's eyes, where emotion, curiosity, and character come to life, creating a genuine connection between the artwork and the viewer.

"My hope is that visitors leave not only having seen paintings of wildlife, but having felt a connection to the animals themselves," said Anita.

Wildlife has long been Anita's main source of inspiration. With “One Spirit, Many Expressions”, she hopes to encourage viewers to slow down, appreciate the remarkable individuality of animals, and reflect on their own connection to the natural world. The exhibition's title reflects its core idea. While artistic styles may differ from canvas to canvas, the heart of each painting remains the same: to celebrate the spirit of wildlife and inspire wonder, compassion, and lasting appreciation.

Anita is an emerging artist based in Sherwood Park, Alberta who takes pride in her Métis heritage. She has spent the last seven years as a full-time studio artist. Known first for her pastel pet portraits and wildlife art, she is now transitioning exclusively into oil painting, drawn to the medium's ability to capture the softness of an animal's fur. Over the past year, her focus has shifted toward wildlife portraits that give an impressionistic twist to contemporary realism. These portraits are created with bold brushstrokes and a nature-inspired color palette. She currently serves as a Navigator for master artists on Mastrius.com, where she continues to refine her craft alongside other professional artists.
