Sturgeon Nose
  • Sturgeon Nose

"This piece is influenced by the traditional water craft of the First Nations peoples of this area - the Sturgeon Nose Canoe. The sculpture is inspired by and attempts to honour the resourcefulness and stewardship of these First People. The sturgeon nose form is both sculptural and functional. Boat builders harvested cedar and maple for substructure, cedar root and bitter cherry bark for lashing and white pine bark for the skin. My stylized version is crafted with a steel substructure and copper skin."
