"Marble Afternoon was inspired by a warm, sunny summer day at Marble Canyon, where I painted alongside some of my plein air friends. During our quick session on location, I quickly realized how challenging it would be to capture a great painting amidst the overwhelming detail and sensory overload. My goal became clear: to focus on the colors and mood of that wonderful day. Back in the studio, I used my Plein Air study, vivid memories, and a few photos from the outing to create this piece. Working with oil and cold wax, I aimed to simplify the painting while preserving its essence. The added texture brought drama to the vibrant water and striking landscape, enhancing the emotional impact of the scene."
